Clerkship / Suspend Step 1 Only Cards

Suspending Step 1 Only Cards

Some AnKing cards are tagged for both Step 1 and Step 2 content. During clerkships, it can be useful to isolate and remove Step 1-only material to decrease card burden that is unlikey/never going to be on any future exam. I did this the day after I took step 1 after preclinical year, and it suspended half of my deck (~10k cards).

You end up retaining many cards because there is fundamental overlap between Step 1 and Step 2. Keeping these cards in rotation lets you stay sharp on fundamentals that serve to be foundational in most of your future step 2 / clerkship content - I highly recommend this!

Open the Browser, locate the relevant Step 1-only tag, and paste it into the search bar. This filters the deck to cards that are explicitly Step 1 and not cross-tagged with Step 2.

tag:#AK\_Step1\_v12 -tag:#AK\_Step2\_v12

(This tag gets ALL the Step 1 cards that do NOT also have a Step 2 tag on them, meaning they are step 1 only cards.)

Select all returned cards and Toggle Suspend to activate or deactivate them as needed for your workflow. This helps reduce overlap and keeps your study set aligned with your current exam focus.

Note

This step requires Anking, because the anki cards are located in that superdeck. See above steps on installation and setup of Anking!
